The expansion of the Walls of the Old City of Jerusalem National Park
21/02/2022Official statement of the Israel Nature and Parks Authority (INPA) regarding the expansion of the Walls of the Old City of Jerusalem National Park

The ancient landscape of the Kidron Valley and the Valley of Hinnom that encompasses the ancient city of Jerusalem, is one of the most important cultural and heritage landscapes in the world deserving of protection and preservation.
The site has long been zoned for preservation and not for construction. For that reason, the INPA initiated a number of years ago a project for a National Park at this site due to its great significance, and to provide it with official protection status in order to strengthen its level of its preservation.
According to Israeli law, declaration of any land as a National Park does not change its ownership status, as all private lands within a National Park remain in their owner’s possession.
The INPA does not at this time have any intention to advance this project in the planning boards, and the project will not be brought up for discussion without dialogue and interchange with all appropriate stakeholders, including the local religious bodies, regarding the best way forward to preserve this unique site.
